So I’ve been flailing around the internet today trying to research up some starting gear on a budget. Clearly, most everyone’s opinion of budget is far more than my opinion of a budget.

Here is one of the really good, really intelligent, starting kits:

Nikon D5200 24.1 MP dSLR camera (now D5300) (body only) ($600)

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens ($197)

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II ($333)

Good, solid advice. Really well thought out with great points. I’m not at all knocking the advice. However, it is nearly two years old. So hey, then I figured that the gear would be cheaper, right? Wrong. Apparently technology doesn’t move quite that fast.

Maybe, just maybe, I can get a decent camera for something in the $250 range, but that is far above my budget. Then again, my budget is on the level of happy to be eating more than ramen again tonight. Surviving on a fixed income is not fun at all.

So I’ll have to find a way for my little 3.2 mega pixel Powershot to just do the job for now. Focus on lighting and composition skills instead of just taking quick snaps of what I find pretty. So don’t expect a grand increase in quality on the technical side. I have to work with what I’ve got.
